Udaipur Wedding Photography

The City of Lakes deserves
a photographer who listens.

Lake Pichola at sunset, marigold-lit mandaps reflected in water, monsoon light breaking over the Aravallis. Udaipur is unlike anywhere on earth, and it takes preparation to photograph well.

Destination Wedding Photography

Udaipur does not need a filter.
It just needs the right eye.

Of all the places we have photographed weddings, Udaipur is the one that makes other wedding photographers quietly jealous. The water. The light. The way the City Palace reflects itself in Lake Pichola at the golden hour. You could point a camera in any direction and create something beautiful — but creating something extraordinary requires knowing where to stand, when to wait, and when to let the moment arrive on its own.

We have photographed a wedding in Udaipur, and it taught us the city rewards a photographer who has done the homework. The courtyards of the City Palace each hold light differently through the afternoon. The moments that matter are as likely to be on a boat as on the ghats. Arrive early, stay late, and let the lake do its work — nobody should have to pose in front of it.

The Venues

Every lake view has a moment. We know when it arrives.

Lake Pichola

Taj Lake Palace

An island palace with no road access. Every frame is water, sky, and marble. We position one photographer at the boat arrival and one inside — because you cannot miss either moment.

Udaipur

The Leela Palace Udaipur

Grand scale and intimate corners in equal measure. The infinity pool at dusk, the mandap overlooking Pichola, the suite corridors that frame portraits effortlessly.

Devgarh

RAAS Devigarh

A restored 18th-century fort in the Aravallis, 35 km from Udaipur. Minimalist interiors against ancient stone — the contrast is unlike anything else in Rajasthan.

Udaipur

City Palace Udaipur

Eleven courtyards, each with its own light and character. The Mor Chowk peacock mosaics, the Chandra Mahal rooftop, the Sheesh Mahal mirror interiors — all extraordinary.

Fateh Sagar

The Trident Udaipur

Quieter and more intimate than the grand palaces, with Fateh Sagar Lake as backdrop. Sunsets here are legitimately surreal. Worth arriving an hour before dinner.

Udaipur

Oberoi Udaivilas

A palace built in 2002 that feels centuries old. Domed pavilions, moats with lotus, and a canal-side mandap. Every angle at Udaivilas is pre-composed.

Why Fotobar in Udaipur

Full coverage team. Every moment. No exceptions.

01

The light windows are short

Udaipur's lake light changes every fifteen minutes at golden hour. It has to be scouted beforehand so the team is exactly where it needs to be when it peaks.

02

Boat coverage specialists

Many of Udaipur's most iconic moments happen on the water. It takes logistics, equipment protection and footwork to be in the right boat at the right time.

03

Low-light experts

Candlelit mandaps on the water, diyas at the ghats, evening ceremonies under the palaces — Udaipur weddings are often half in darkness. We do not use flash. We use light.

Planning a Wedding in Udaipur

The lake sets the schedule. So do the palace rules.

Season. October to March is the window, November to February the peak. April to June regularly crosses 40°C and is punishing for daytime functions. The monsoon, July to September, fills Pichola and Fateh Sagar to the brim and some palace venues drop their rates — but you need a covered backup for every outdoor moment.

Booking. Peak dates at the Taj Lake Palace, The Leela, Oberoi Udaivilas and City Palace go eight to fourteen months ahead, often as whole-property buyouts. Fix the venue, then the photographers.

Permits. The City Palace museum sections restrict tripods and flash, charge a photography fee, and need prior written permission for a commercial shoot. Drones are not allowed over Lake Pichola or the palace complex — we plan aerials, if any, only where they are actually permitted.

Light. The golden-hour window on the water is roughly the last forty minutes before sunset, and the City Palace east courtyards hold the best morning light. We scout both a day early so the team is standing in the right place when it peaks, not walking towards it.

Udaipur Wedding Photography · FAQ

Questions couples ask us about Udaipur.

When is the best time for a wedding in Udaipur?

October to March, with November to February the peak. April to June is very hot (often above 40°C) and hard on outdoor functions. The monsoon (July to September) fills the lakes to their fullest and some palace venues discount heavily, but humidity and rain need a covered backup plan.

How far ahead do Udaipur palace venues need to be booked?

Peak-season dates at the Taj Lake Palace, The Leela Palace, Oberoi Udaivilas and City Palace typically book eight to fourteen months out, and the island and heritage properties are often full buyouts. Lock the venue first, then the photography team — we take a limited number of Udaipur weddings a year.

Are there photography restrictions at City Palace or on Lake Pichola?

Yes. The City Palace museum sections restrict tripods and flash and charge a photography fee, and a commercial shoot needs prior permission from the palace administration. Drones are not permitted over Lake Pichola or the palace complex. We plan the day around these rules rather than being surprised by them.

How many days should we plan for an Udaipur wedding shoot?

A three-function Udaipur wedding usually runs across three days. We arrive a day early to scout how the light moves through the venue's courtyards and across the water, so the team is in position when the short golden-hour window on Lake Pichola actually arrives.

Udaipur only happens once.
